To Begin Again

For Saxophone, Euphonium, Bassoon, Cello, and Piano

This piece came to be during the Covid 19 pandemic. In a time as anxiety ridden and isolated as this, hope was sometimes hard to come by. There was no guarantee when the pandemic would be over, if we would ever have our normal lives back, and if we could recover from such a society shock. I reflected a lot during this time on starting over and what that could look like. When such a big change happens in your life, it’s hard to know if you will ever feel the same. Part of change is accepting that the past may never come back, but how we move forward in the present can be a stronger and more beautiful version of what we had before. This piece reflects a lot of the emotions during this time period: anxiety, confusion, sadness, anger, joy, and finally, peace.
