Earthsong for SATB

Commissioned by the Aiga Singers, led by Leasi Mana

Bring me back to earth

where all the sky can see

each tree and stone and meadow

and finally now me

Let me find my roots

Deep beneath the ground

For all that I have searched for

Could never come around

Echoes of the past

Could never find me here

Under trees they look at me

Say look how young, don’t fear

The world is not so scary

When you lie among the moss

Let the wind come in and carry

You far beyond the loss

This is a piece about our connection as humans to the Earth and to each other. In a world surrounded by noise, it can feel impossible to find inner peace. For me, sometimes going out among the trees and feeling the ground beneath my feet is the only way to stay centered. We come from the Earth, and back to it we return in the great circle of life. I hope this is a comfort, and a reminder that we all have a place in this ancient Universe we call home.
