Ponderosa
For Flute and Piano
Ponderosa is a piece that depicts the state tree of Montana. The beautiful Ponderosa pine is a symbol of hope, strength and perserverance, with its ability to withstand forest fires and extreme weather. These trees harbor many animals, keeping them safe from unpredicatable weather patterns. The bird calls are especially present throughout the piece in both flute and piano, with contrasting sections to display the regal beauty and mystique that these trees hold.
In my first semester as a masters student, it seemed that I would never stop missing my home. The music from this time is a mix of mournful and ideally hopeful, where I hope to one day be as strong as the ponderosa pine, perservering through the worst of storms.
