Fairy rings are mushrooms that appear in a circular formation, usually in forests or grassy areas. They have been associated with the presence of fairies or elves and are thought to be good or bad luck, depending on the tradition. In English and Celtic folklore, fairy rings were caused by fairies or elves dancing in a circle. It was said that if humans joined in the dance they would be punished by the fairies, and made to dance in the ring until they passed out from exhaustion. In terms of the spelling of "fairy", 'fairies' are beautiful, kind, generous, and help human beings. 'Faeries', on the other hand, are evil and they cause trouble wherever they go.
